Taking Bets Online For The British National Squash Championships, Feb 9th – 14th
February 9th through 14th sees the return of the British National Squash Championships to Machester. On the men’s side, rivals James Willstrop and Nick Matthew will face off once again, as will women’s rivals Alison Waters and Jenny Duncalf.
Nick Matthew was the men’s 2009 winner of the British National Squash Championships, after defeating James Willstrop in a landmark duel to the finish. Everyone is on the edge of the seats to see how the two will fare against one another this time. Especially when you consider Willstrop’s recent week in which he beat 3 #1 world champions to win the Tournament of Champions, right before heading into this match. Will that put Matthew on edge? It may at least make his 2009 title not so intimidating for his top contender.
On the women’s side, Duncalf is 3rd in the world and Waters is 5th. This is the third time in three years that they’ll be meeting on the British National Squash Championships court, with Duncalf winning in ’07 and ’09 and Waters winning in ’08. Will it be another rally for the runner-up, with Waters taking the crown this time? This is her fifth women’s finals appearance, after all, and she does have a 2010 WISPA World Tour trophy under her belt already. But Duncalf is still the favorite, not only because she is the defending champion, but because she was momentarily number 2 in the world, in December of ’09, after a double victory at the British Open on the same SportCity Manchester National Squash Centre Court against the number one women’s player in the world since 2006, Nicol David.
