North American Soccer Championships Coming Up In March
The Professional Area Soccer League (PASL-Pro) playoffs and the North American Soccer League (NASL) Championship game are coming up the second week of March.
First will be the quarterfinals games on Thursday, March 11 at 5 and 7:30 pm. The semifinals follow on March 12, also at 5 and 7:30 pm. And on March 13 at 6:15 will be the finals.
The PASL-Pro will be sending 3 teams to the playoffs while the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League (CMISL) will be sending its season champ, and the Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido (LMFR) champs, La Raza de Guadelajara and Sidekicks del Estado de Mexico. Last year’s champs were Stockton’s California Cougars, beating the 1790 Cincinnati Express 13-5. But the Express is actually the team being marked most likely to appear in the championship game as they are finishing out the season with the best Eastern Division record, 9-3. The Cougars record for this season is 10-4. Other favorites are the San Diego Sockers and the Louisville Lightning.
The teams are to be seeded according to winning percentages, with the two top teams to be sent automatically to the semifinals. The semifinals will then be a single elimination event.
There was originally a March 6 game that was since canceled.
The PASL-Pro was formed in October of 2008 as a branch of the biggest amateur soccer league in the U.S., the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL-Premier). By affiliating with Canada’s CMISL and Mexico’s LMFR, the competition can truly be considered a fully North American venture.
