[ad#bodog-250]The National Basketball Association will play their All Star Game on Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The All Star Game has been around for years and provides entertainment for the fans, and allows players from different teams the opportunity to play with each other. It also allows for some of the best match-ups, you’ll ever see. The NBA All Star Game is usually full of points, with defense only coming late in the game. This year’s version takes place at the Staples Center, which is the home of both the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers. The game will start at 8:00pm EST, and can be seen on TNT. Here is some information regarding both teams:
The Eastern Conference are the visitors in this game. They seem to have the younger talent, as some of the teams are starting to emerge in the standings. The Eastern Conference starters see a pair of Miami Heat stars on the team. LeBron James, who led Cleveland to a franchise high in wins last season will be the starting Forward, along with Dwyane Wade as a starting guard. The Chicago Bulls got their point guard in his second year- Derrick Rose, in as a starter. Rose has emerged as a possible MVP candidate in the recent weeks, especially after his 42 points against San Antonio on Thursday night. The rest of the Eastern Conference line-up includes “Superman” Dwight Howard and Amare Stoudemire. Stoudemire is making his first start for the Eastern team, after spending years in Phoenix and playing with the Western Conference. The Eastern Conference reserves include four players from the Boston Celtics. Point guard Rajon Rondo leads the Eastern Conference in assists. Ray Allen is the all time leading three point shooter, Paul Pierce leads Boston in scoring, and Kevin Garnett, another transfer from the Western Conference. The Atlanta Hawks are sporting two players, as sharpshooter Joe Johnson and big man Al Horford are on the squad. Chris Bosh of Miami is the final player on the Eastern Conference squad. All together, only 6 NBA teams had a player on the Eastern Conference squad.
The Western Conference is full of veterans. Making their 13th All Star Appearence are Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan. Duncan is quietly aiding his Spurs to their best record all the All Star break in franchise history. Bryant’s Lakers have struggled as of late, but are still the back-to-back champions. Carmelo Anthony may be making his last Western Conference start. Rumors continue to fly that Anthony will be moved to New Jersey or New York soon. Chris Paul is the starting point guard for the Western Conference, while Kevin Durant – the NBA’s leading scorer is the final starter on the team. Duncan is replacing Yao Ming on the starting roster.
Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook are all first timers to the NBA All Star Game. Griffin will compete in the Slam Dunk Contest over the weekend as well. Love has been a stud rebounder for Minnesota, and Westbrook runs the offense for Kevin Durant and the Thunder. The rest of the reserves in the Western Conference include: Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers, Manu Ginobili, who leads the Spurs in scoring, Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas and Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz.
Our pick: The Eastern Conference is younger, and just overall better now. Take the Eastern Conference in a virtual pick’em over the Western Conference!
