Football League Johnstone Paint Trophy Final: Sunday March 28
Coming up this Sunday, March 28, will be the 2010 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final, the battle for the title of the year’s best of the best in Football Leagues 1 and 2. This year’s event sees the Carlisle United squaring off against the Southampton Saints.
The match will be held in the new Wembley Stadium where last year’s packed house watched Scunthorpe United and Luton Town in one of the closest finals in Johnstone’s Paint Trophy history.
Carlisle comes off of a 6-5 win against Leeds United, landing them the Northern ection Area Final slot, while the Saints are coming off a fresh 3-1 win over the MK Dons to take the Southern Section Area slot in the final.
Johnstone’s Paint has been sponsoring this major Football League event since 2006. Following the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final will be several months of Coca Cola Football League contests, including a full match schedule for the month of April 2010. And already it’s time for the league’s 2010/2011 fixture dates to be released, which follows all this excitement on June 17.
We already know the starting date of the season, though, and that’s August 7, with the Carling Cup beginning August 9 and running for three weeks following. Then the next Johnstone’s Paint Trophy season kicks off on August 30 with the start of Round 1.
Before all that can happen, however, there first needs to be a champion decided for the 2009/2010 season, and on March 28, 2010 at Wembley Stadium that will be determined to be either the Southampton Saints or the Carlisle United.
