2011 National Hockey League All Star Game
On Sunday Night, January 3oth, 2011 – the National Hockey League will play it’s annual All Star Game. This season is the first time the All Star game went to a draft style. Instead of playing the Western Conference against the Eastern Conference, each team had a set of captains, and they were able to draft their own team. The draft took place Friday night. The game on Sunday will take place at the home of the Carolina Hurricanes. On Saturday night, the National Hockey League will have a skills competition.
The captains for the game were Detroit Red Wings Nicklas Lindstrom and Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes. Lindstrom picked the wrong side of the puck, which gave the #1 pick to Staal. Staal quickly picked his teammate – Cam Ward, the goaltender of the home team Carolina Hurricanes. Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning leads the league in goals scored as was the second pick in the draft. Alex Ovechin went third, and was drafted by Team Staal. Each team had to pick three goaltenders, six defensemen and 12 forwards.
Team Staal’s team also had co-captains Mike Green and Ryan Kesler. The players chose the following players to their team: Cam Ward, Alex Ovechin, Daniel Sedin, Zdeno Chara, Rick Nash, Henrik Lundqvist, Mike Staal, Patrick Sharp, Dan Boyle, Carey Price, Jeff Skinner, Kris Letang, Claude Giroux, Erik Karsson, Corey Price, Patrik Elias, David Backes and Paul Statsny.
Team Lindstrom was aided by Patrick Kane and Martin St. Louis. They chose the following players: Steven Stamkos, Duncan Keith, Henrik Sedin, Shea Weber, Tim Thomas, Danny Briere, Dustin Byfuglien, Jonathan Toews, Marc-Andre Fluery, Jonas Hillar, Brad Richards, Keith Yandle, Brent Burns, Martin Havlat, Anze Kopitar, Matt Duchene, Loui Erikkson and Phil Kessel.
One notable name not able to play in the All Star game is Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby. Crosby continues to sit out with an injury.
Well, this should be interesting. The odds makers did not place a line for this game. Be sure to check with your favorite sports book right up to the game time for this, and see if you can wager on the team you like in the All Star Game. If we had to choose, and of course we do – we are picking Team Staal. We feel their goaltenders are better, and have an explosive group of offensive players.
Our pick: Bet Team Staal to win the All Star Game on Sunday Night. Get the best in betting here!
